Love charity Show- Gothic Theater- Denver, CO

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
That was the theme of the Love Charity Fashion Show, held at the Gothic Theatre on Broadway in Denver on Friday, March 7.  The event was sponsored by Locks of Love, a non-profit organization providing hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children, and united Front Range artists and businesses in a worthy cause.

Local musicians Some Random Band kicked off the evening, getting the crowd warmed up for the main event – a fashion show in which kids took center stage.  Clothes were provided by Dillard’s, as well as Violet, a boutique clothier on Larimer Square.

Models’ hairstyles were created by The Parlour and Salon TAO, and featured the creative incorporation of many novel elements.

“The event was a benefit for children, so we did everything we could to make it fun for the kids in the show,” said Tracy Owen, owner of Broomfield’s Salon TAO.  “We gave them wild pony tails, colored mohawks, decorated hair with glitter and flowers, and made hair out of yarn, feathers, whatever.”

Owen and three Salon TAO stylists – Michal Rath, Brianna Cordova, and JoAnn Spight – prepped a long line of would-be fashionistas backstage before the show.  Many of the pint-sized,  would-be divas entered to loud applause, but the highlight of the evening for Owen was cutting Some Random Band lead singer Paul Hummel’s impressive ponytail onstage at the end of the fashion show.

“We got about 14 inches of hair, which is awesome.  It takes about five to 10 contributions to make a hairpiece,” noted Owen.  “The crowd loved it, and Paul was a great sport!”

Locks of Love requires hair contributions to be a minimum of 10 inches in length.

Popular local band Lazyface brought the night to a close with their self-styled “Swahili Disco” sound. Best Buy, Chromosome Boutique, and Studio Lites also contributed to the event.

A portion of all proceeds went to Locks of LoveView pictures of donations cut at Salon TAO.
